Language Support Link Worker

I was very excited to join Convo in September 2023. Previously, after doing a degree in languages, for over 15 years I worked in colleges and universities in France, Australia and England. I taught English, ESOL and Academic Skills to employees, migrants and international students, and met and learnt from people from diverse backgrounds, each with unique experiences and aspirations.

Over the years, I began to realise that I wanted to help people in a more holistic way than teaching, so I did some counselling training and started working for the NHS. My year there led me to reflect that, as well as having a strong desire to help in the community, I specifically missed regularly connecting with people from other countries and teaching.

I love my role as an English Language Support Link Worker. I assess learners’ English needs, match them with a volunteer and support this ongoing partnership. I also teach an ESOL class. I am proud of the part I play, together with my colleagues and our volunteers, in helping learners to become less isolated and more integrated into their local community. Outside work, I love playing the saxophone, reading, gardening, walking and cooking  for friends and family.
